On the DVD release of the TV series From The Files of Police Squad (the inspiration for Naked Gun) there is an interview with a very old Leslie Nielson in which the actor explains that the series and the movie sought to pointedly avoid anything 'mean spirited'.
The interview gave an endearing insight into both the actor and the producers; offering a thoughtful reminder that kindness is far more valuable than cruelty.
