Marilyn Monroe

Another Hollywood actress that deserves mention is Marilyn Monroe. Superficially she seems to be a victim of the need to please men and acquiesce to a male agenda, however, this is not the case. Monroe demonstrates a wry humour and an artful, often subtle manipulation (and dominance over men) in pretty much all of her most famous films. Her child-like voice, kooky behaviour and coy mannerisms disarm and beguile her male counterparts. Although these are not traits I'd care to embrace personally, Monroe accomplishes her aims with panache. In Gentleman Prefer Blondes, a rich father accuses Monroe of just wanting his sons's money. Monroe immediately makes it clear that she wants the father's money, not the son's. Hardly a fool or bimbo?
