HYPE

Back when Star Wars Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace came out the film magazine Empire gave it rave reviews.
Some months later as the result of reader complaints they re-watched and re-considered the movie.
And they recanted.
They gave the film a new rating; far lower than the first.
To their credit, the staff at Empire readily admitted that they'd been caught up in the hype.

The new Star Wars movie is unlikely to seem as bad as Episode 1 when we re-watch it next year or at some point in the future.
But did it really live up to the hype?
I'd say no.
It wasn't awesome.
It wasn't a triumph.
It was good fun and had some good moments but was it really the great follow-up to Return of the Jedi?
I don't think so.

Lucas blew it with his prequels.
Abrams did a little better with the new film.
But in both cases they failed to knock my socks off.
